Frenkie de Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, has this week met with Barcelona and director of football Deco amid ongoing claims that Tottenham have made a bid for him.

That’s according to Sport, who say the pair ‘held a summit’ on Friday afternoon in a well-known Barcelona restaurant to discuss the Dutch midfielder.

Reports throughout this month have linked Tottenham with a surprise move for the midfielder in the summer, with him yet to agree to a new deal at the Camp Nou and that leading to speculation that he will sold to help balance the books.

A report on Valentine’s Day stated Tottenham had already made a huge bid and several more since then have backed that up, with it claimed they are willing to spend big to secure his signature.

A lot of the talk surrounding his wages and potential future has left the midfielder rather unhappy and he recently hit out at the media, labelling some stories as false and criticising journalists for writing stories that he insists are not true.

Sport now pick up on the drama and say a ‘hectic week’ for the club has resulted in a face to face meeting between Deco and Dursun that was necessary to ‘calm things down’, exchange opinions and try to ensure noise from outside has not deteriorated a ‘cordial relationship’.

Deco believes the press could cause problems for him with the player, who already saw how the club tried to use them to push him out in 2022.

Thus he wanted to cool matters by meeting his representative and the meeting is said to have had a ‘positive tone and good will’, lasting around an hour and a half.

Whether they now lead to an agreement on a new deal remains to be seen with the two parties still far apart and Tottenham just one of several big teams interested in a deal.
