The Portuguese media continued to be pretty confident about Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to Manchester United this morning, suggesting a deal is close with negotiations continuing.
There had been just a little doubt about when the move could be completed. Sporting have a derby against Benfica to be played at home on Friday, so that would sound like the perfect farewell for him.
But according to Correio Da Manhã TV this afternoon, Bruno Fernandes will be leaving Lisbon before that.
It’s said the midfielder should fly to Manchester at the beginning of this week (before midweek), since the deal with the Premier League side is practically closed.
Manchester United would be paying €60m initially, plus another €10m in bonuses and one player going to the Lisbon side on a permanent deal.
It’s always worth mentioning Correio da Manhã often go a step ahead in these transfer claims, being a little too sensationalist, so we don’t trust them as much as other Portuguese outlets.
Given the other reports today, it’s not too difficult to assume this is a deal that can be done in the coming days, and it would be typical of Correio da Manhã, and some others, to suggest they know more than perhaps they do.
Playing in that Benfica match had been presented as a possibility and not a probability, and it was made clear this morning that Manchester United could demand the player before then.
