According to Aksam, after rejecting Fenerbahce’s latest contract offer, Martin Skrtel will join Rangers on a free transfer.
The Slovakian defender is currently without a club after his contract with Fenerbahce expired and Aksam say he’s set to be reunited with Steven Gerrard following their time at Liverpool.
It’s claimed Skrtel rejected Fenerbahce’s one year offer as he believes he is worthy of a longer term deal, which Rangers can provide for him.
Aksam report Steven Gerrard’s presence has been a key factor in the potential transfer and the 34 year old will be heading to Ibrox as a result.
Previous reports from Turkey suggested Skrtel rejected Fenerbahce’s offer of €2m for a one year contract. The Turkish newspaper haven’t given any details with regards to Rangers’ proposal, but they say the Scottish club have offered him a longer deal compared to Fener.
In his three seasons with the Istanbul club Skrtel made over 100 appearances but he failed to win a trophy with the Yellow Canaries.
