Since Arsenal announced the signing of Nicolas Pépé, we know the club’s fans are no longer so interested in Everton Cebolinha. But it’s only now that the Brazilian press is getting some information on the talks between the Gunners and Grêmio.

The reason why it’s all coming out this week is that as reported by several outlets, the player has fired his agent, attracting a big competition of representatives who would like to take him out of Brazil.

Yesterday, it’s been reported that after Edu Gaspar contacted Everton’s former agent Gilmar Veloz, Arsenal were left ‘astonished’ with the player’s price.

Grêmio had been demanding €40m for the sale. Since they only own 50% of the player’s rights, it’s quite possible he could have cost the full €80m.

And today, as reported by UOL, Arsenal did make an informal offer for Everton. The Gunners said they could pay up to €40m to take 100% of his rights.

Once Grêmio rejected the bid, Arsenal went for Pépé… that’s the story in Brazil.
