Following an entire month with many rumours about the future of Lille defender Sven Botman, it seems Newcastle United made a late effort to have him signed in the January window.
According to Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo, the Magpies ‘last night’ submitted a €40m bid to sign the Dutch player.
The answer, however, was negative, and it actually came from Botman himself, who has other plans for the future.
Longo claims that the 22-year-old only wants to pick a destination in next summer, and is already attracted to the interest from Serie A side Milan.
🚨 Offerta da 40 milioni di euro del Newcastle per Botman, ieri sera. No del giocatore che vuole scegliere futuro a partire dalla prossima estate ed è attratto dall’interesse, forte, del #Milan @cmdotcom

Botman was linked to several clubs this month, including from the Premier League, but it was Newcastle United who were said to be strongly interested in his signing.
It had already been claimed that Lille had turned down €40m for the defender, but the article that followed his tweet claims it was actually €40m + bonuses, and the Ligue 1 side also turned it down.
