Last September, Barca extended his contract until 2026, but La Liga haven’t accepted his renewal because they failed to meet their fair play regulations. As it stands, Gavi is back on his youth team contract, which expires in June.
Chelsea could take advantage of this to acquire the Spain international’s signature. They have already taken appropriate steps by making contacts with his agent, Iván de la Peña, and his parents.
Fichajes.net state that, barring any surprises, the west London plan to appoint Enrique as their next manager and this could help them to sign Gavi, as Enrique has managed the midfielder when he was in charge of La Roja.
Both the player and unemployed manager also share De la Peña as their negotiator and the former two share a very good relationship. Chelsea intend to use these to their advantage to acquire the player’s signature.
It’s worth noting Julian Nagelsmann, who is without a job since leaving Bayern Munich, is also one of the favourite candidates to become the next Chelsea manager.
