While the big story surrounding Gianluigi Buffon has been that of a potential move to Liverpool, they aren’t the only Premier League side to have approached the veteran goalkeeper over the past few days.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal, who are currently looking for a new manager following Arsène Wenger’s ‘decision’ to step down after 22 years in charge, came forward and expressed their interest in acquiring his services.

However, it appears that Paris Saint-Germain hold all of the cards, as the Italian newspaper explain the Gunners’ current situation isn’t as strong, probably because they still don’t have anyone in charge.

With Petr Cech already between the sticks, going for Buffon is a bit of a head scratcher, especially since the 40-year-old will want to carry on playing at the highest level and not sit on the bench.

And if he were to arrive and relegate the Czech Republic international to being a substitute, the former Chelsea shot stopper won’t be pleased in the lack of trust.

There would be no pleasing both men, meaning Cech would probably have to be sold, yet Buffon is hardly a long-term option.

At least Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have younger goalkeepers who could potentially learn off the Italian.

But what do we know? Maybe Arsenal just wanted him to be their next manager.
