Manchester United let Tahith Chong join Werder Bremen on a season-long loan deal in the last window, months after he committed his long-term future to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The winger has been forced to settle for just over 300 minutes across 11 appearances in the league for the German side this season, and it includes only three starts.
His failure to impress for the Bundesliga side saw reports in Germany last week suggest the Premier League side are considering taking the player back in January.
According to Deich Stube, Werder Bremen head of sports Frank Baumann was ‘surprised’ by this news of United reportedly planning to cut short Chong’s loan stay next month.
“Well, I haven’t heard from Manchester that they are dissatisfied. In any case, we are not,” Baumann said, making his side’s stance on Chong clear.
Chong came off the bench and assisted Eren Sami Dinkçi’s late winner in Werder Bremen’s win over FSV Mainz 05 at the weekend. Deich Stube adds the Manchester United owned player’s latest impact was his way of answering the recent rumours.
Werder Bremen manager Florian Kohfeldt also gave his take on the Netherlands U21 international.
“A nice cross. Tahith played a big part in this goal [against Mainz]. I see Tahith on the right track in terms of the second half of the season,” Kohfeldt said.
Meanwhile, Bild states the German club’s coach is unhappy with Werder Bremen’s official channels constantly taking a dig at Chong.
“I don’t like what we’re doing with Tahith Chong on our Werder side either. I’ll be honest with you,” Bild quoted Kohfeldt as saying.
