West Ham United’s Issa Diop has ended up in the sights of AC Milan.

Simon Kjær suffered a serious injury in the Serie A side’s 3-0 win over Genoa at the start of this month and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of this season. The Dane’s long-term absence has forced the Rossoneri to act in the upcoming window.

Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are working on ‘different tracks’ to achieve the ‘real goal’ in January, and that is to sign a centre-back.

That’s what Calciomercato are reporting and they say Sven Botman remains the favourite. However, it will be difficult to take him away from Lille on loan with a right of redemption, the formula Milan are looking for.

Therefore, the Italian club are looking at other profiles and one of the targets identified is David Moyes’ man. It’s claimed ‘Massara has made an attempt’ for Diop in ‘recent days’.

The Frenchman’s contract with the Hammers will expire in 2023, but West Ham are ‘not so convinced’ to let Diop leave next month.

After being relegated to the bench in the first few months of this season, the 23-year-old made his first league appearance against Chelsea last month. Since then, he has featured four more times in the Premier League.
