Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier has emerged as a summer transfer target for AS Roma.
That’s according to Romagiallorossa.it, who state the Serie A side were able to plan for the next window during last month’s international break.
There were concerns over Josè Mourinho’s future but it’s claimed the coach is increasingly convinced to continue in Italy.
Roma general manager Tiago Pinto has accepted the Portuguese tactician’s request to bring in two new midfielders after this season. The Giallorossi are ‘working on another coup’ for the defence, where they have identified the Tottenham player as a target.
It’s claimed Pinto has initiated contacts to sign the England international in the summer. He can operate as a centre-back or in midfield and Mourinho knows Dier well from his time at Tottenham.
The former Sporting man’s deal expires in 2024. Roma believe their good relationship with Spurs could ‘favour’ them when holding talks with the north London club.
A potential deal for Roma will depend on them qualifying for the Champions League next season, either by finishing in the top four or winning the Europa League this season. They are fifth in the table, level on points with Inter Milan, who are in fourth spot.
