Chelsea held an online meeting with Barcelona to discuss Pierre Emerick Aubameyang today, but it was not a positive one.
That’s according to El Partidazo de COPE, relaying information from journalist Pedro Morata, who says talks between the two clubs went ‘very badly’.
Chelsea have been chasing Aubameyang for weeks, having identified him as the ideal solution to fill the gap in their forward line created by the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
Barcelona are more than open to a sale as it would allow them to make a healthy profit on a player who arrived at the club on a free in the January transfer window.
However, the two clubs are yet to strike an agreement and it seems an effort to do so today did not go to plan.
Partidazo report that the meeting between the two clubs ‘went very badly’ because Chelsea want to use Marcos Alonso as part of the payment and Barcelona do not want that.
As has been stated elsewhere, they want a deal for Alonso to be completely separate.
Thus, negotiations have hit a brick wall, although there will be another meeting this afternoon in an attempt to resolve their issues.
Whether they can remains to be seen, but a bad meeting this late in the window does not bode well for Chelsea’s hopes of getting the striker they need.
