Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Diego López from Milan. According to Onda Cero (via Mundo Deportivo), Antonio Conte has asked for an experienced goalkeeper in the squad.
López made only nine appearances for Milan last season, as the 17-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma has been the Rossoneri’s number one for a while.
But López wouldn’t play much at the Stamford Bridge either. Chelsea are obviously happy in having Thibaut Courtois, despite Antonio Conte wanting a quality goalkeeper to be available to the squad when Courtois isn’t available.
Mundo Deportivo’s article don’t say much about talks or offers. They only claim that Diego López wants to have more minutes and Milan can’t give him that, so a departure seems very likely.
Asmir Begovic doesn’t even get a mention in the article, which is odd considering he’s Chelsea’s number two and has a contract until June 2019, and is, in our humble opinion, a better option off the bench than López would be.
The 34-year-old signed for Milan from Real Madrid in 2014 for free. His contract at the San Siro expires in 2018.
