Thibaut Courtois is edging closer to a Real Madrid move, reports Marca on Tuesday.
With the World Cup now over, the Belgian goalkeeper’s future needs to be sorted out, partly because of his contract situation at Chelsea.
Courtois is in a strong position and it won’t be by accident. The goalkeeper now has less than a year left of his contract at Stamford Bridge and the club know they could lose him for nothing if they don’t sell soon.
Marca report a transfer to Real Madrid is now ‘more than close’, adding ‘to the point that it could be announced in the coming days’.
The transfer is put at €35m, something Marca describe as a ‘real bargain’ in the current market. Chelsea are said to be under pressure and in a hurry to sell the stopper, and that’s why they’ve dropped down so much on their demands.
A few days ago, Spain’s El Confidencial reported Chelsea had offered €35m for Courtois plus a further €10m in bonuses, but that Chelsea were holding out for €50m.
It would be a surprise if they’re really ready to accept a flat €35m fee.
