Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has joined up with the Serbia squad ahead of the World Cup Qualifier against Georgia.

As always, Matic has been happy to speak to the Serbian press on his arrival and Blic wanted to know if he’s been missing former Chelsea teammate Branislav Ivanovic, now with Zenit Saint Petersburg: “Believe me, I cannot wait to have a cup a coffee with him alone. I really miss him. I’m used to seeing him every morning in training, but what to do, that’s life.”

The Serbian media are obviously pleased that Matic is close to winning another Premier League title with Chelsea and put that to him, but the midfielder isn’t counting on it yet: “Ha-ha-ha, until I see the trophy at Stamford Bridge – nothing is over!”

Also of interest in Serbia are recent links between Matic and Barcelona. There have been weak rumours about potential Barcelona interest in the Chelsea player, and Matic takes it as a compliment: “Of course it feels good when you’re connected with that great club, but it’s all I can say. I focus only on Chelsea.”

Matic has been linked to Barcelona at several points in his career but the interest has never seemed to be strong, and that’s the case at the moment. It would be a surprise to see the Serbian move to Barca in the summer, but the links are still flattering for the player.
