Loaning Saúl Ñiguez from Atletico Madrid for the season, Chelsea appeared to have pulled off a rather useful deal for all involved.
After all, the Spaniard wanted a change of air, and Thomas Tuchel seemed intent on bringing in an all-purpose midfielder, but the deal simply hasn’t worked out.
Saúl has barely featured for the Stamford Bridge club this season, and there are now rumours that Chelsea would like to replace him in January.
That’s come from Calciomercato.it, who explain that according to the information they have managed to collect, the Blues are ‘seriously thinking about Adrien Rabiot to substitute’ the Spain international.
They would therefore enter in a battle with Newcastle United, who have been heavily linked with a move for the Frenchman over the past week or so.
However, ‘the confusing situation’ at St James’ Park of late has slowed things down a bit, and if it came down to a choice between a current relegation contender and the most recent Champions League winners, it’s fair to say Rabiot probably wouldn’t have to think twice about it.
