Last week, Calciomercato explained Chelsea ‘think about’ Matthijs de Ligt, but a potential deal for the Juventus star has been on ‘stand by’ due to the club’s takeover.
In the last 48 hours, the Blues takeover by Todd Boehly-led consortium received the green light from both the Premier League and the UK government.
Chelsea can now fully focus on the transfer window, where the Turin club’s defender is still on their agenda.
Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo took to Twitter to report the west London club are ‘serious for De Ligt’. Longo added the 22-year-old is the ‘first choice’ target for Thomas Tuchel.
La Reppublica state the Netherlands international is a ‘dream’ target for the English club. Chelsea will have to bolster their defence after Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger decided to leave Stamford Bridge.

The ‘most popular name’ on the English club’s notebook for the defence is that of De Ligt, a ‘young and ready-made centre-back’, who is ‘perfect for Tuchel’s football’. Meanwhile, the former Ajax man is negotiating his renewal with Juve, and the new deal will also his release clause lowered to €70-75m.
It’s claimed ‘at least €70m’ is needed to convince the Serie A side to part ways with the Dutchman this summer. Chelsea, now able to operate again in the market, will have the budget to carry out this deal.
La Repubblica also add Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent offered the Napoli defender to Chelsea, but there has been no development in this case. Should the Blues’ ‘assault on De Ligt end with nothing’, then they could return for the Senegal international.
