Leading up to the January window, Chelsea were constantly being linked with Rafael Leão, who was a target for them in the summer.

The Blues were on the war path on the transfer market after Todd Boehly took over, and signed a number of players, which continued midway through the season.

None of them were the Portuguese, however, as Chelsea were thwarted by Milan, who still live in hope that the forward can extend his contract, which currently expires in 2024.

The problem is that they are struggling to do so, and now find themselves with a player who has seen his form dip quite considerably since he returned from the World Cup.

Gazzetta dello Sport have an article on the situation, explaining that the player ‘isn’t scoring and isn’t signing’, referring to the renewal and his lack of goals.

Milan have offered him a wage of €6.5m/year, but that doesn’t seem to be enough, perhaps as he and his entourage knows he could get a better payday at a club like Chelsea.

The London side are also mentioned in the article, with it said that the Stamford Bridge side ‘were and remain in the front row’.

That’s because ‘the contacts between the Blues and Leão’s entourage have never stopped’, making it clear that Chelsea are still very interested in the Milan star.
