Barcelona are aware that Chelsea are ‘after’ midfielder Gavi, who the Catalan giants may be forced to sell after their elimination from the Champions League.
That’s according to Super Deporte, who say one of young trio Pedro, Nico and Gavi could leave the Camp Nou in the near future.
They explain that Barca’s failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League has cost the club €20m, something that they have no chance of earning in the Europa League.
As such the coffers at the club are ‘urgently in need’ of income and that could leave them to selling players they don’t want to.
While there is a list of players they want to get rid of, there is now a changing reality at the club and several players who were previously ‘untransferable’ aren’t anymore.
Even if they can get rid of the likes of Andre Ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong or Memphis Depay they will also have to part with one of the new jewels of La Masia ‘much to their regret’.
Those are Pedri, Gavi and Nico González, and there is interest in them, something Barcelona are aware of.
Indeed Chelsea are said to be ‘after the services’ of Gavi and are ‘already studying offers’ that they can present to Joan Laporta and co to try and take advantage of their ‘need of income’.
The nature of the offer isn’t mentioned but Chelsea’s interest is nothing new, with it reported last month that they are ‘very keen’ and then that their interest was causing concern at Barcelona.
It seems that remains the case and now with the Catalans in desperate need of money following their exit from the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel and co are ready to make their move and try to tempt them into a sale.
