Marcos Alonso has regained his place in Chelsea’s starting lineup after enduring a difficult campaign last term.

The left-back has featured in every fixture in all competitions this season, managing a goal and an assist in nine matches.

His performances for the Blues have resulted in Inter Milan reigniting their interest in the 30-year-old.

The Nerazzurri have Aleksandar Kolarov and Federico Dimarco as the two left-backs in the squad, while Ivan Perišić can operate in the same position. The latter two have their contracts expiring in 2022.

Journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, writing in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb, states the Serie A winners will need a left-back to provide cover and competition for Dimarco next season.

Therefore, Alonso’s name is ‘back in force’, after they looked at him in the past few seasons.

The Spaniard’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2023 and Inter chiefs, Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, are ‘ready to attack’ for the Chelsea player.

Apart from Thomas Tuchel’s man, Atalanta’s Robin Gosens remains an option, but his asking price is ‘definitely out of reach’ for Inter.
