One of the areas Maurizio Sarri really wants bolstered at Lazio these days is the goalkeeper role.
Neither Thomas Strakosha nor Pepe Reina have fully convinced him, which is why we occasionally get an article linking Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Serie A side.
After all, the Italian manager knows the Spaniard well from their time together at Stamford Bridge, and, in his eyes, he’s an upgrade on what he currently has at his disposal.
The problem, as it always has been in these reports, is the fact Kepa is on big wages at Chelsea, to the point where Lazio can’t really afford to take a chunk, or even any, of them on.
Corriere dello Sport look at the situation, and make it clear that any goalkeeper arrival would be in June, and the Spain international is ‘Sarri’s favourite’ for the job.
As expected, ‘he would need to move on loan, accept a wage cut and Chelsea would need to acknowledge a part of it’.
Currently earning €7m at Stamford Bridge, Kepa would have to sacrifice something to get away from his current situation, where he is ‘confined to the bench’, and he could be ready to do so since he ‘wants a change of air’.
That’s why he’ll ‘surely do so’ in June, and would ‘re-embrace Sarri, having let him know multiple times over the past few months’.
