For a couple of weeks, reports from the Dutch media claimed Feyenoord were close to completing the signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.
There had been claims the player had an agreement with the Eredivisie club to join them on a loan deal, and at one point it was even said he’d travelled to the Netherlands to complete the transfer.
Following the sale of Tyrell Malacia to Manchester United, Feyenoord are in need of a new left-back, and that’s why the arrival of Maatsen was so awaited at the club.
However, according to a new report from AD, the signing of the Chelsea player is not happening, as the 20-year-old himself decided against the move and told manager Arne Slot about his stance.
The outlet claims Maatsen wants to ‘go for his chance’ at Stamford Bridge side ‘for the time being’, having rejected, at least for now, a new loan following his spells at Charlton Athletic and Coventry City.
The left-back, whose single appearance for the Blues came in an EFL Cup game back in 2019, has a contract with Chelsea running until 2024.
