Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is signing a new deal with the club, according to reports from Brazil.
Outlet UOL says the Blues were excited with the first season the 36-year-old had at Stamford Bridge, and now work to keep him for longer.
Thiago Silva’s contract expires in a month, and even though Chelsea have the option to extend it for a further year, they’re likely to renew it for an ‘even longer period’.
Since the recovery from his groin injury is said to be the player’s priority, the deal is expected to be signed in June.
Thiago Silva was a starter in the Champions League final against Manchester City on Saturday, and was forced to leave the pitch in the first half.
He’s now ruled out of Brazil’s next two games for the World Cup Qualifiers. Still, he’ll be working with the squad during his recovery, and is expected to be ready to feature in the Copa America, with the national team having their first game on the 14th of July.
