Several reports from Spain today claim that César Azpilicueta is about to have a meeting with Chelsea regarding the chances of a contract renewal.
EFE agency is one of them, claiming the player should speak to the club ‘in the coming hours’, to decide whether to stay at Stamford Bridge for another year or sign for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Marca writes that Azpilicueta ‘doesn’t have a clear’ scenario for his future, even though his renewal would be automatic following his 30 appearances for the club this season. That’s why he wants to sit with new owners and Thomas Tuchel to know their plans for him.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are said to be requesting a fee from Barcelona in case they want to sign him. That’s not something the Catalan side would like to pay, and that’s why they wait for the result of the meetings.
Marca report Azpilicueta doesn’t want to leave the Blues on bad terms, so he’ll talk until he finds the best solution for his situation. And Barça continue to do their maths to see if they can afford the signing.
