Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso continues living a personal drama when it comes to his international career.
Despite having good spells at club level, the Spaniard is still to be called up for the national team, where he only made appearances for the youth levels.
The 26-year-old did well for Fiorentina in the 2015/16 season, when he caught Chelsea’s attention and made a €23m move to the London side.
Then in his first season for the Blues, he didn’t have any struggles to adapt to the Premier League and was an important part of the team who won the title.
But that still wasn’t enough.
Asked if the manager has given any signs that he could get a call up in the future, Marcos Alonso didn’t seem optimistic about it.
“I haven’t had contact with Lopetegui, the call will come or not,” Alonso said. “I just worry about giving everything on the pitch and doing my best.
“The best way to make yourself known is to do well on the pitch.”
The left-back, who left Real Madrid’s academy in 2010, also claimed that a return to his home country is in his plans: “Now I am very good at Chelsea but someday I would like to play in Spain.”
