Chelsea and Inter Milan are in negotiations over a deal for N’Golo Kanté, with the Frenchman keen on the move.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who confirm that the Serie A side are determined to reunite the midfielder with Antonio Conte this summer.
The newspaper explains that as reports over the last two weeks have suggested, Inter Milan are extremely keen on signing Kanté as Conte looks to improve his midfield.
They explain that the ‘bond’ between the manager and the France international is ‘very strong’ and as such Inter have a better chance of securing his signature than other potential suitors because that acts as a ‘magnet’ for the player.
His ‘willingness’ to make the move is something Inter are aware of; otherwise, they would have not started negotiations with Chelsea.
The problem, however, is the Blues’ asking price. Contrary to reports they are not demanding €70m for Kanté but rather €50m.
They are not willing to accept one ‘even one Euro less’, with Gazzetta stating that it is always the same with English clubs ‘one way or another you have to reach the required amount’.
Inter, though, can’t afford that asking price because of a ‘financial policy’ that has been implemented by owners Suning.
They’re insisting that further investments in the transfer market can’t happen until they have sold players.
Thus the Italians are working to sell Marcelo Brozovic, while they are also willing to listen to offers for Milan Skriniar and Christian Eriksen.
Selling them would give them the funds to do a deal with Chelsea for Kanté and the ‘good’ relations between the two clubs suggest negotiations could go smoothly.
The road to signing Kanté ‘is not short’, though, suggesting this rumour is set to run for the remainder of the transfer window.
