Arriving in England aged 11 after Chelsea plucked him from ASPTT Marseille, Jeremie Boga, now 19, is at the stage of his career where first-team football is important for development.
Of course, with a talented squad like the one present at Stamford Bridge, a spot in the Premier League side is hard to come by, meaning loans are the best option.
Spending last season with Rennes in France, the attacking midfielder didn’t have the best of times, and is now giving Spain a go, where he has just moved for the next 12 months with Granada.
Speaking to local newspaper Ideal, the youngster acknowledged his struggles in the north of France last season, and hopes for better things in a more technical league.
He said: “I think that in France, the league is more physical and the Spanish league will be a better fit for me because I like playing technically with build-up. I’d say this is the perfect league for me.
“In England, everything is more direct whereas here they play with more possession of the ball. Spain is better for my style of football.”
Now managed by Paco Jémez, who wanted him three years ago at Rayo Vallecano, Boga also reserved special praise for one of his former Chelsea managers in José Mourinho.
He said: “Working with Mourinho was a very, very good experience. He is, without a doubt, one of the best managers in the world. I learnt a lot even though I didn’t have that much time with him, just a pre-season.”
The 19-year-old made 31 appearances for Rennes last year, scoring three goals and picking up one assist in the process.
