Even though it seemed so certain that the Chelsea winger Nathan would spend another season on loan at Belenenses, things are not going as expected.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has a story today saying the clubs are still to find an agreement to extend the 22-year-old’s loan.
Things were sounding optimistic not only because of the player’s public quotes saying he’d like the move, but also because he had been in Lisbon having medicals to stay at Belenenses.
However, as the clubs can’t get to an agreement, Nathan ended up returning to London, and according to O Jogo, he’s currently training with Chelsea’s reserve squad.
Signed by the Blues from Brazilian side Atlético-PR in 2015, Nathan has previously been loaned to Vitesse and Amiens, and has played for Belenenses since January 2018.
In this short time in Portugal, he’s made 13 appearances, with a record of two goals and two assists in the league.
Still to have a chance to make his official debut for Chelsea, Nathan’s contract with the Stamford Bridge side expires in 2020.
