Olivier Giroud came close to leaving Chelsea in January as clubs in Serie A were keen on acquiring his services.
However, the Blues were forced to retain the striker after failing to bring in a replacement in the same window.
The France international’s earlier contract was set to expire after the end of last season. He signed a one-year extension at Stamford Bridge in May.
Prior to that, reports suggested there were clubs in Ligue 1 who showed interest in signing the 34-year-old.
Giroud appeared as a guest on RMC Sport’s program ‘Top of The Foot’ on Tuesday, and when discussing his future plans, the World Cup winner admitted a return to France in not on top of his list.
“Honestly, a return to France is not my priority. It’s not my priority career choice. I’m not ruling anything out, but if I have to change course, I’m focused today on a new adventure, in a foreign championship,” he said.
Even though the ex-Arsenal star retains a desire to continue at the highest level, he has publicly discussed playing in Major League Soccer.
“I hope to play at the highest level for two or three more years if my body allows me,” the Chelsea player explained .
“After that, I never hid an interest in a possible move to the United States. It was in the news a few months ago, but it was too early. I’ll think about it.
“I was also close to signing in Italy (with Inter Milan in January), I know that the Italians like experienced players… I’m not denying myself anything. It will mostly be a question of opportunities at that moment.”
Giroud has been restricted to one appearance in the Premier League this season and that came in his side’s 3-3 draw against West Bromwich Albion in September.
