Chelsea will take on Al Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final clash in Abu Dhabi later today and victory over the Saudi Arabia side will help them get closer to winning the first silverware of this year.

Prior to the clash, César Azpilicueta spoke to the reporters on Tuesday. With his contract set to expire in June, it was no surprise the Blues captain was quizzed about his future at the west London club beyond this season.

“I am not going to talk about my future, we are one day away from the semifinal of the tournament,” the defender said.

Barcelona are showing interest in the Spain international. On January 26th, we relayed news from the Catalan press that stated the 32-year-old will ‘first listen’ to the Blues offer before making a decision on his future.

Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo again reiterates the La Liga side intend to bolster their back four by signing Thomas Tuchel’s man on a free transfer in the summer.

It’s claimed the versatile defender is already aware of interest shown by Barca, who would have sent him a ‘proposal of two years plus one’. In other words, the Catalan club’s offer is until 2024, with an option to extend it by a further year.

The offer sent by Xavi Hernández’s side is better than the one proposed by Chelsea, which is ‘only [for] one season’, until 2023.

Azpilicueta will turn 33-years-of-age in August and as of now, the player has not given a definite answer to Barca’s ‘proposal of two years plus one’.
