Chelsea have ‘asked specifically’ to sign striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, although he is likely to remain at RB Leipzig regardless.
That’s according to Sport BILD, who say the forward is on Chelsea’s list of options, but a move is unlikely to be happening at this moment in time.
The newspaper explains that it is increasingly likely that Leipzig will be back in the Champions League next season thanks to Borussia Dortmund reaching the Champions League semifinals.
Their focus is very much on next season and their belief that they can compete for the Bundesliga title, on the assumption that Bayern Munich will not be at their best yet again.
If they are to achieve that they want to avoid what they’ve done in the past, that is selling their star players for big fees.
Those in charge at the club admit that the sales of Konrad Laimer, Dominik Szoboszlai, Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol led to an indifferent campaign.
Such an upheaval is not planned again and so the chances of Sesko being sold to Chelsea, or any of his other suitors, are low.
He has a release clause worth €50m but the club have made it clear to him that he can develop best with them, and a move would not be in his best interests at this moment in time. Thus, despite them having ‘asked specifically’ for him, a move is unlikely.
Of course that can always change if the Blues just pay that €50m and convince him.
