Danny Drinkwater could be eyeing up a surprise move to the Bundesliga, according to claims on Monday evening.
The Chelsea midfielder is completely out of the picture under Frank Lampard and has played a few games in the Premier League 2 to try and find some level of fitness.
Fussball Transfers report the player’s agents are working to find him a new club in the January window, and that’s seen them consider Germany as an option.
Talks with crisis-club Schalke took place back in November, although nothing came of that route. FC Koln were tried after that, although that hasn’t come to anything either.
Chelsea are so keen to get rid, even on a loan for the rest of the season, that they’re prepared to continue paying part of Drinkwater’s salary. That makes him available to clubs with smaller budgets, but Fussball Transfers are doubtful whether there’ll be any takers in Germany, despite the player ‘toying over’ a move there.
That would see the agents have to look elsewhere, and there’s been past interest from Turkey, Russia and North America.
