Chelsea and Manchester City have ‘signalled interest’ in Lens full-back Jonathan Clauss after his impressive performances in France this season.
That’s according to Kicker, who say the Champions League finalists are among several clubs keen on the 28-year-old.
Clauss has been a key player for Lens this season after arriving on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer.
With six assists and three goals to his name in 33 games in Ligue 1, he is one of the surprise stories of the season in France and a key part of Lens currently sitting sixth in the table.
Some in France already believe that he could make the step up to the national team as a result, and that might not be the only move he gets.
According to Kicker, ‘top foreign clubs’ are ‘putting out feelers’ for the defender, with Chelsea and Manchester City among them.
The newspaper reports that, according to their information, the Premier League duo have ‘signalled interest’ in Clauss, alongside Sevilla and an unnamed club from Turkey.
It’s stated that the ‘cash registers would ring’ in Lens should a move happen, with a transfer fee of €6-10m touted as ‘being discussed’.
That’s a fee both Chelsea and Manchester City could afford comfortably, although either club’s need for a 28-year-old right-back is dubious given the options they both already have in the position.
Still, the interest is apparently there as far as Kicker are concerned, so Clauss is another name to keep an eye on in the coming months.
