As long as Antonio Conte cuts a desolate figure on Chelsea’s touchline, Maurizio Sarri, who can be talked to if a club pays his €8m release clause, will continue to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Napoli manager is a recurring name in the managerial merry go round planned for the summer, as the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain could all be looking for a new head coach come the end of the season.
We’ve already covered some of the worry in Naples about how easily Roman Abramovich could trigger that release clause, but now Il Mattino are talking about his agent, Alessandro Pellegrini, throwing feelers around Europe to see how crazy some of the offers for his client might be.
Furthermore, the Italian newspaper reiterate that Sarri wouldn’t be averse to managing in the Premier League at a big club, especially after being bigged up by Pep Guardiola during the Champions League group stage.
A renewal is in the works from Napoli, and talks were said to be starting on Friday to that effect.
We’ll just have to wait and see what comes of them, and so will Chelsea.
