Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti would like a reunion with Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri this summer as he eyes a new left-back.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who say the player has already given his approval to the move.
They explain that with doubts about the long-term fitness of Faouzi Ghoulam, Napoli are determined to sign a new left-back this summer.
Rather than a long list of options, they have two names on their list, Chelsea’s Emerson and Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan.
The Italo-Brazilian is the ‘real favourite’ of Spalletti, though, who worked with him at Roma and would like to do so again as he considers him a player of ‘quality and assured performance’.
The problem is Chelsea because, at the minute, there is no formula for a deal to happen. Napoli can’t afford a permanent transfer, so they would have to work on a loan with a right-to-buy at the end of it.
Emerson, for his part, has already given his approval to the move and thinks it would be a ‘great opportunity’ for him.
He needs Napoli to find an agreement with Chelsea first, though, which, as we’ve seen with other departing players, is easier said than done.
