Bayern Munich director of football Max Eberl was keen to sign Chelsea’s Levi Colwill this summer, before slow exit negotiations ultimately ended the idea.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, relayed by FCB Inside, who reports that Bayern’s failure to get Mathijs de Ligt out the door quickly ultimately put an end to any interest in the Chelsea man.
Plettenberg reports that while Jonathan Tah was the preferred option for Bayern this summer, Eberl also liked Colwill. In fact, the Chelsea man ‘particularly appealed’ to him.
That was due to ‘financial aspects and strategic considerations’ with the former in particular important. Bayern saw no reason to give in to the sums being demanded.
Chelsea were believed to have valued Colwill at around €50m as he had recently signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
Lengthy negotiations with Manchester United over the sale of Mathijs de Ligt also didn’t help. Bayern’s board wanted Eberl to generate sales and funds before jumping into transfers and the fail to move on the Dutchman quickly therefore limited him.
Thus, a move for the Chelsea defender never happened, but a move for him again in future cannot be ruled out.
