Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone would like to sign Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, with the Spaniard described as a ‘dream’ signing for the Argentine boss.
That’s according to Marca, who say the Chelsea full-back is a long-term target for the Atletico Madrid boss.
They explain that Simeone actually wanted Alonso back in 2019 when he was looking for a replacement for Filipe Luis.
He would ‘love to have’ the defender in his squad, believing that he ‘has it all’; he defends, attacks, adapts to a back three and never loses his head in a game.
The La Liga side were looking at a move, but then club chief Andrea Berta discovered Renan Lodi, and they signed him instead.
He is a talent who has been polished and produced good performances for the club but has not ‘exploded’ how they were hoping he would. Hence there is an interest in Alonso once again.
The Chelsea man would like to play in La Liga after spending parts of his career in Serie A and the Premier League and ‘could fit perfectly’ into Simeone’s squad. Furthermore, he would solve the problem that Atletico and Simeone have at left-back.
He is the ‘dream’ signing for Simeone, one he had in 2019 and has maintained since then, although whether Chelsea will sanction a deal remains to be seen.
