Chelsea’s new management will have a lot of work to do to shape up their squad for the new season and one of the areas they must strengthen is their defence.

After losing Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen, the Blues must sign at least one centre-back this summer.

For the past few days, reports from Italy stated the west London club have identified Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt and Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar as targets.

Thomas Tuchel’s side continue to look at Serie A as Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been added to their target list, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Senegal international has 12 months left on his contract and hasn’t been able to find an agreement over a new deal with the Naples club.

In the ‘last few hours’, there has been ‘contact with the agent’ of Luciano Spalletti’s man in London. Chelsea have decided to look at the 31-year-old because of the high valuation set by Juve and Inter for De Ligt and Škriniar respectively.

In Koulibaly’s case, the price ‘could be lower’ given his deal with Napoli expires in 2023.
