Compared to a lot of other Chelsea loans this season, we haven’t written much on Victorien Angban, currently at Metz in Ligue 2.

The reason for this is that, one small behavioural blip aside, he’s just been quietly impressing and doing his job, sitting in front of the league leaders’ defence.

The 22-year-old, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2012 from Stade d’Abidjan, is currently on his fourth loan from the Blues, having previously play for Sint-Truiden, Granada and Waasland Beveren from 2015 onwards.

While he’d much prefer continuity in a club, the defensive midfielder is quite happy with his career so far, even if this latest move wasn’t high on his list initially.

Speaking to Republican Lorrain in France, he explained: “I wasn’t thrilled at first, but the manager (Frederic Antonetti) kept on calling me. So I asked people who’d worked with him in the past, like Baky Koné, and then I accepted.”

Happy to defend and recycle the football, Angban still doesn’t know what his future holds, but he’s not bothered either way.

He said: “I have a year left on my contract with Chelsea, but I can also stay with Metz.”

Currently three points clear at the top of Ligue 2, Metz included a clause in the loan that could see them pay Chelsea to make the move permanent should they be promoted back to Ligue 1.

As things stand, they’re well on their way to doing that, meaning that if their form continues, the Ivory Coast international’s future should become clearer by the game.
