Chelsea have joined the race for RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer, who is determined to leave the German club next summer.

That’s according to BILD, who say the Blues are ready to compete with Bayern Munich for the Austrian’s signature.

They explain that a move to Bayern fell through in the summer after Leipzig demanded €30m for their man, but the Bavarian side ultimately only offered €24m.

Laimer wants to leave in the summer, though, with a contract extension at Leipzig ‘considered out of the question’.

Bayern would have hoped for a clear run at him, but Chelsea are now ‘also interested’ in the midfielder after Todd Boehly ‘became aware’ of him during efforts for Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku.

There is also the Christopher Vivell factor to consider. He was recently sacked by Leipzig after negotiating with Chelsea for the position of chief scout and he could ‘do some additional convincing’ on the player.

Laimer would be interested in the move as the Premier League ‘appeals’ to him and he is looking for a new challenge.

Liverpool also made a last-ditch effort to win him over this summer, but that transfer fell through shortly before the end of the window.

Whether they remain interested isn’t mentioned, despite them very much being in the market for another midfielder to bolster their squad.

The focus here is very much on Chelsea and their new interest in Laimer, who alongside Gvardiol and Nkunku could be making the switch to Stamford Bridge next summer.
