Chelsea continue being named as one of the contenders to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
On Tuesday, we had already seen newspaper Record naming the Blues as one of the competitors for the 22-year-old, with that being the first time the Stamford Bridge side were mentioned in the race.
Now today, as the same outlet features an interview with the striker’s agent, they once again include Chelsea in the list of clubs who could soon take him away from Lisbon.
Representative Edgardo Lasalvia confirmed the approaches from “big clubs”, but highlighted Darwin’s work to achieve big things in Portugal.
“He’s focused on Benfica. He wants to repay the trust they have placed in him and win titles this season,” the agent told Record.
Last season, Darwin had 12 goals and 14 assists, which attracted interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, who reportedly made a couple of offers for him. Now with six goals in 2021/22 already, including the brace against Barcelona, it seems the the battle for his transfer will only get bigger.
Record includes the Blues along with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City in the race. That’s clearly a heavy competition for the striker, and with Benfica protecting him with a release clause worth €150m, the Eagles can certainly make a big sale in case he continues to do well.
