Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has been labelled as Fenerbahce’s signing of the year, with it believed he will score goals in Turkey this season.
The Belgian striker was linked with a move away from Chelsea all summer after it was made clear he was not a part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
It had appeared he would remain in the Premier League, with reports linking him to the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
Those did not happen, though, and he instead moved to Fenerbahce in a £3.15m deal earlier this week.
It will be his second spell in Turkey following a loan spell at Besiktas last season, during which he scored 14 goals and picked up five assists in 42 games in all competitions.
Those numbers aren’t impressive to some and the move has been questioned, but Turkish football manager Hikmet Karaman isn’t one of them.
In fact, he believes the Chelsea man could prove to be an astute piece of business.
“I think the real transfer of the year for Fenerbahçe is Batshuayi,” he told Hurriyet.
“He is a really great player in my opinion. Fenerbahçe made the best transfer in a long time. Unfortunately, this is the way we look at Turkish football.
“He was criticised a lot for missing goals. But he scored 14 goals and had 5 assists for Beşiktaş. Is that not enough?
“He missed just as many goals. However, the most important thing is to get into position. Fenerbahçe made a great transfer.”
