Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is reportedly very close to signing a new deal with the London club.
Rumours the Serbian player would be keen on extending his contract have been reported for a few days now, and Italian website Tutto Mercato Web comes up with an exclusive today saying the agreement is ‘practically done’.
Matic had a contract running until 2019, and according to the website the new deal will expire only in 2021. Roman Abramovich’s intention would be to ‘block’ the player from leaving so easily.
Although the rumours have recently gone quiet, Matic was the subject of some speculation during the last summer window. Especially in the Italian press, where he was much linked with a move to Juventus.
But Antonio Conte wanted him to stay, and the 28-year-old ended up becoming crucial in Chelsea’s new formation, playing alongside N’Golo Kante in midfield.
Tutto Mercato Web claims the new deal should be announced in a week.
