Attracting the interest of Premier League clubs, namely Manchester United, since his Sao Paulo days, Lucas Moura’s decision to choose Paris Saint-Germain instead has seen mixed results.
There since 2014, the Brazilian winger never really established himself as a star player in the Ligue 1 side, and is now barely used by Unai Emery, who has way too many options at his disposal to fit him in his team regularly.
This, mixed with Paris Saint-Germain’s need to make money from player sales to compensate the arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, means a sale in January is anticipated, and Le 10 Sport are adamant Chelsea is a real destination.
A week ago, the French website claimed Antonio Conte and his team were ‘studying the possibility’ of signing the 25-year-old after the winger was offered to them.
Well, that has now evolved into an actual plan, one suggested by intermediaries that would see Willian, used more and more sporadically by the Chelsea manager, exit Stamford Bridge in January.
With teams in China apparently ready to offer the Chelsea winger a ‘golden bridge’, the Premier League side could sell their forward for a hefty fee all the while replacing him with Lucas Moura at a smaller price.
Le10 Sport reckon €30m or so should do the trick to convince Paris Saint-Germain to let the winger leave, which would represent a loss for the Ligue 1 side who bought him for £36m in the first place.
We’ll have to see what comes of this, but following claims in Brazil other Premier League sides have also taken an interest, it’s worth keeping both eyes on.
