Chelsea have commenced talks to renew Eduardo’s contract, report Tuttomercatoweb.
Third choice goalkeeper may not be the most glamorous squad positions, but every club needs one and Chelsea would like their 35 year old shot stopper to stay around for another season.
That would see Eduardo’s contract extended to June 2019, giving him another year at the club.
Joining Chelsea in the summer 2016 transfer window from Dinamo Zagreb, Eduardo first extended his contract in May 2017, adding a year at that time too. Chelsea are trying for the same outcome.
TMW say Eduardo has considered returning to his native Portugal, where he played for SC Braga, so Chelsea may not have the conversations as straightforward as they’ll hope for.
Coming towards the end of his career, perhaps the former Portuguese international may get an urge to move somewhere else and actually play football.
Short of a big injury to Thibaut Courtois, and then something also happening to Willy Caballero, it’s unlikely the goalkeeper will get much time at Stamford Bridge.
Maybe a sympathy appearance could be dangled as a reward for renewing.
