Chelsea scout Eddie Newton is currently in Turkey to discuss latest scouting developments in football, and he’s been interviewed by Turkish newspaper Aksam.

During the interview Newton spoke about Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, after reports in the Turkish press the 24-year old is a target for Arsenal, and he confirmed there’s been some Chelsea interest.

The former Chelsea midfielder spoke positively about the Turkish international, and said: “Ozyakup is a very good player. We followed him before. For me he’ll suit the Arsenal system. He’s technically strong, calm and composed on the ball and also a good passer.”

The former Arsenal academy graduate was sold to Besiktas in 2012 and has gone on to become one of the key players in the Turkish side’s back to back titles.

However, Ozyakup has yet to extend his contract with Besiktas beyond the summer, and Arsenal could look to come in for the player.

There were recent claims Arsenal tried to sign the Besiktas captain in the last window, but their offer of €7m was rejected by the Turkish champions.

It’s expected the London side will come back in for Ozyakup, and they can now speak to the midfielder with regards to a precontract agreement.
