The Christmas Eve edition of Gazzetta dello Sport has a feature on AS Roma transfers.
Whilst it’s mostly looking towards the winter transfer window and attackers, with the possibility of Michy Batshuayi arriving from Chelsea if his Valencia loan is cancelled, there’s also a look towards next summer.
Now there’s a hope Roma can get through the next round of the Champions League against Porto, to put them in a better position financially ahead of the summer.
Thought to need fullbacks as part of a long standing issue, one man said to have caught the club’s eye, and that of sporting director Monchi, is Patrick van Aanholt.
The 28 year old has a contract with Crystal Palace until June 2021, so the Premier League won’t be under any pressure to sell during the summer window, meaning Roma may look to cheaper options elsewhere once they find out a possible price.
Van Aanholt has played 18 games in the league so far this season and has clearly been a key part of Roy Hodgson’s system.
If Roma are looking for a bargain, as they so often are, then this is unlikely to be the right track.
