Bojan Krkic was linked with a move to Celtic towards the end of the January transfer window. As Brendan Rodgers looked to add to his squad, a move could have been a good opportunity for all involved.
Celtic would have been a place where Bojan’s talents could have seen him quickly become something of a cult hero, although he’d have had to cope with tackles as tough as those he’s experienced in the Premier League.
In the end, Celtic didn’t get their man, with Bojan moving to Mainz in the Bundesliga. Spanish newspaper have asked Bojan why he didn’t join any of the other clubs, with Celtic specifically mentioned.
The Spaniard explained: “It was the team that best met the Stoke requirements for a transfer of four months and it seemed good.”
One of the requirements was not being a Premier League rival of stoke, and Celtic obviously met that, but there’s no indication of what the other issues were.
It may well have been that Mainz were prepared to pay more for the loan than Celtic, but, again, that’s not made clear.
