Over the past week there’s been multiple claims from the Spanish media regarding Luis Palma and a move from Celtic to Rayo Vallecano.

The Honduras international is thought to be surplus to requirement under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and has therefore been made available on the market.

Earlier today, we covered Spanish reports which stated Luis Palma was now very close to Rayo Vallecano and in the final phase of a move. There was said to be an agreement between Celtic and the Spaniards which would see the player initially move on loan with an option to make that permanent for €2.5m in the summer window.

There now comes a report from Honduras which drops a sledgehammer on top of that Celtic transfer.

Diez, one of the major sport outlets in the country, has a report headlined: Unexpected turn: Luis Palma will not go to Rayo Vallecano after FIFA earthquake with the Spanish team’

They explain they’ve been able to find out from their own sources that whilst Luis Palma is still expected to leave Celtic it won’t be to Rayo Vallecano, at least not in this window.

FIFA are said to have banned them from registering new players for three windows.

Diez quote a Rayo Vallecano source as saying: “This is the first information we have.”

Marca have also reported on the registration ban, with FIFA announcing on their website that both Rayo Vallecano and Mallorca have been banned from registering new players for three windows.

Rayo Vallecano sources told Marca pretty much the same as what they told Diez.

The Spanish newspaper go on to say: ‘FIFA sources consulted by Marca say that the sanctions are due to non-payment through a solidarity mechanism, that is, to the training teams for their signings.’

There’s a possibility Rayo Vallencano could sort this out by paying what they apparently owe, and then still sign Luis Palma from Celtic.

Right now though… it’s a developing drama.
