German newspaper Bild have taken a look at the targets of Bundesliga clubs for the upcoming transfer window. For Borussia Dortmund, one of those ‘in conversation’ at the German club is Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.
A brilliant first season in Glasgow has seen the Celtic star linked to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with speculation spreading it out to more clubs than are probably interested.
There’s no point Dembele leaving Celtic and the Scottish Premiership to play a bit-part somewhere else, and that will surely be a big part of his thinking. Dortmund have a record of signing young players who have already shown their talent, but they may not be prepared to part with the transfer fee Celtic would ask for.
From the player’s perspective he’d need to know Dortmund’s plans for him, and with the Bundesliga side looking at other attacking players, Dembele could lose prominence. Under Thomas Tuchel, Dortmund haven’t had the Bundesliga success many would suggest, with them currently 4th, 6 points behind RB Leipzig in 2nd, and that’s in a season when several of Germany’s biggest clubs have had big problems.
Brendan Rodgers won’t have given up all hope of keeping the 20 year old longer than the current season, and another year in Glasgow could further help Dembele’s progression. The Celtic manager will get to work soon on persuading Dembele to stay.
