Celtic are ‘in the running’ to sign Romain Perraud, insist French newspaper L’Equipe.
They’ve been speaking to the Nice player so that may give a clue as to why they’re so sure the Scottish Premiership club have ‘come forward’ for the signing.
There’s other interest too, Celtic wouldn’t have it all their own way. The French newspaper say a dozen clubs have requested information about signing the player, but it’s only Celtic and Brest, newly promoted to Ligue 1, who are specifically named in the report.
That would suggest their interest is the most serious.
Perraud wants to leave his current club, and is quoted as saying: “Because of a painful history, I had really hammered my wish to leave and at the end of May, I repeated the same thing. I have nothing against the current leaders but Nice missed the train with me. I want a new challenge.”
The 21 year old left back will have to hope his club can come to an agreement with an interested side, otherwise he’s going to be stuck somewhere he clearly doesn’t want to be right now.
Preseason training starts next week, and having fallen out with Nice, Perraud probably doesn’t want to be involved in it.
It’s now for Celtic or someone else to take advantage of the situation.
